DURHAM, N.C. (WTVD) -- Blair Holliday stepped onto the Duke football field Saturday for the first time since being critically injured in a jet ski accident over the July 4 holiday weekend.
Across Wallace Wade Stadium, Duke fans wore shirts to show an outpouring of support for Holliday.
The Duke team store has sold several shirts that support the sophomore wide receiver.
"You see some hope in every t-shirt that you see on campus. And I feel great wearing it. I smile when I put it on. I think it's great. The whole athletic department and Duke as a university is really behind him," lacrosse player Taylor Virden said.
His teammates are wearing number eight to honor him in Saturday's game against NCCU.
"I think everyone really, you know, wants to see Blair get better, everyone wants to help. There's only so many things you can do. He's the one that has to fight to get better. I think the reaction is just enthusiasm to see him get better," Duke parent Connie Brown said.
Holliday's accident left him with a brain injury that he has been fighting to recover from ever since. Since early August he has been at a physical rehabilitation center in Atlanta.
Also in attendance at Saturday's game is Chelsea Gibbons, the Pitt Community College nursing student who saved Holliday's life.
