RALEIGH (WTVD) -- The Wake County School Board came out of a closed door session Monday and made no announcements about the future of Superintendent Tony Tata.
The meeting on a "personnel matter" lasted three and a half hours.
The board voted to recess until 3 p.m. Tuesday.
The meeting came as a Wake County commissioner said the school board is going to try to fire Tata.
Republican Phil Matthews posted the comment on his Facebook page.
In light of the news, some parents are rallying support for the school leader.
"I feel like, personally, he's done a lot for Wake County to bring some positive improvements and a great deal of stability," parent Pam Cashwell said.
A Republican majority school board appointed Tata at the end of 2010 to implement a new assignment plan.
The new plan has been the source of controversy and widespread complaints from parents and even board members. The most recent problem involved a busing debacle involving school buses that either showed up late or didn't show up at all.
Still, some parents told ABC11 they believe what came of that busing debacle was good leadership.
"Superintendent Tata stepped up and accepted responsibility for that, which he's done on a number of occasions with various things that have gone wrong," parent Leslie Davis said. "I think the most important thing right now is to put politics aside and to give our school system some stability"
No one answered the door at Tata's home Monday evening.
