PEMBROKE, N.C. (WTVD) -- A Robeson County woman was mauled to death by the dogs she rescued.
Deputies said they got a 911 call around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday from a home on Sharon Lane in Pembroke.
When they arrived, they found several dogs on top of 54-year-old Mary Jo Hunt. Paramedics pronounced her dead at the scene.
Investigators said the dogs were attacking a smaller dog when Hunt tried to break up the fight with a rake and the dogs turned on her.
Several of the dogs have been impounded. Authorities said the dogs were mixed breeds.
