APEX, N.C. (WTVD) -- The North Pole was in Apex Wednesday as volunteers packed gift boxes full of goodies for military spouses.
Support Military Spouses in collaboration with Walmart, Penske, and dozens of volunteers, put together what they called the nation's largest shoebox gift assembly party for military spouses. They assembled more than 2000 gift boxes for an early December Christmas delivery to spouses located in Fayetteville, home of Fort Bragg, and Jacksonville, home of Camp Lejeune.
The boxes included items like bath gels, lip gloss, and bibles.
"It's just a simple way for the spouses to know that people care about them, and we understand how special they are what they're doing to provide all the freedoms we enjoy on the home front," explained cofounder Diane Rumley.
Many of the volunteers are Walmart workers.
"We love helping our community, and our military is very special. They're here and they're carrying on the home front while their spouses are deployed. So this is the least we could do for them," Teresa Tingler with Walmart explained.
Here's more information on when the boxes will be distributed:
