Woman found dead in Nash County home

NASHVILLE, N.C. (WTVD) -- A 65-year-old Nash County man is in custody after a fatal shooting at his home Tuesday.

It happened just after 2 p.m. at a home in the 7300 block of Cedar Grove School Loop Road in Nashville.

A 41-year-old woman, Leasa Harper Smith, was found dead with a gunshot wound inside the home when deputies arrived on scene.

Authorities said her boyfriend, David Griffin Leonard, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder.

Leonard is being held in the Nash County Jail with no bond. He is scheduled to make his first court appearance Thursday.
