Home invader targets elderly Apex couple

Thursday, December 06, 2012

Police say an elderly Apex couple was the victim of a home-invasion style robbery Thursday afternoon.

Detectives said an 84-year-old woman came home to her house in the 300 block of Olive Street and was approached by a man with a knife wearing a bandanna over his face.

He forced her into her home and demanded money from her and her 86-year-old husband.

The woman called 911 after the man left. She told the 911 operator he threatened to kill them.

"I begged him not to hurt us and he told me he was a drug addict and he needed money and I gave him all I had," she said.

Neither the man or woman was hurt.

Nearby Apex Middle School was locked down for a short time while police looked for the suspect who was described as black male, approximately 5'8" to 5'10", shaved or short cut hair, slim build, and wearing all black.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Apex Police Department at (919) 362-8661 or you can text an anonymous tip to TIP411 using keyword APEXPD.
