ABC 11 First Alert Severe Weather Policy

RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- ABC 11 takes its commitment to serve communities in our 23 county viewing area very seriously during severe weather events via broadcast, abc11.com plus our mobile apps and through Facebook and Twitter. In general, it is our promise to interrupt regular programming and alert via all screens simultaneously when life or property is at risk.

Tornado Warnings (23 county viewing area)

• ABC 11 will interrupt programming or Eyewitness News immediately for continuous storm tracking coverage until the warning ends.  We will send simultaneous First Alert messages on abc11.com plus mobile apps and social media.
• ABC 11 will alert viewers at the bottom of the screen continuously until the warning ends.    

Tornado Watch (23 county viewing area)

• ABC 11 will alert viewers at the bottom of the screen continuously until the Tornado Watch period ends.  We will send simultaneous First Alert messages on abc11.com plus all mobile apps and social media.  

Severe Thunderstorm Warnings (23 county viewing area)

• ABC 11 will interrupt programming or Eyewitness News immediately for brief storm track plus we will send simultaneous First Alert messages on abc11.com plus mobile apps and social media.
• ABC 11 will alert viewers at the bottom of the screen continuously until the Thunderstorm Warning period ends.  We will send simultaneous First Alert messages on abc11.com plus mobile apps and social media.

Severe Thunderstorm Watch  (23 county viewing area)

• ABC 11 will alert viewers at the bottom of the screen each fifteen minutes until the Thunderstorm Watch ends plus we will send First Alert messages on abc11.com plus mobile apps and social media for the duration of the watch.  

Flash Flood Warning (23 county viewing area)

• ABC 11 will alert viewers at the bottom of the screen continuously until the warning period ends plus we will send simultaneous messages via abc11.com, all mobile apps and social media.
