Activists demand action on gun control

Sunday, April 14, 2013

Dozens of people armed with signs and a message took to the Wake County Courthouse Saturday demanding action on gun control.

Activists all wore green ribbons to represent victims of gun violence. Their message was clear -- Congress needs to expand the background check systems on purchasing fire arms.

One advocate had been touched by gun violence more than once. His son's best friend died in Columbine, Colo. and his good friend's 7 year old did not survive the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre in December.

"It's common sense. We have to protect our children," said legislative advocate Steve Levine. "If you're coming up with excuses, I'd be very curious to know what you're doing to protect your children."

The fate of legislation remains uncertain in the Republican-controlled House of Representatives.
