Dozens gather for National Day of Prayer

Thursday, May 02, 2013

It's been a wild couple of days at the North Carolina General Assembly, with rallies and protests that have ended in arrests.

However, Thursday was a much different scene as dozens of people gathered in downtown Raleigh for the 62nd annual National Day of Prayer.

This year's prayer service was held between noon and 1 p.m. North Carolina Lieutenant Governor Dan Forest was attendance and spoke at the event.

Thursday's gathering follows days of unrest in downtown.

Five people were arrested Wednesday when about 100 Triangle and Triad college students protested proposed cuts to the state's university system.

Just days before that, 17 activists were arrested after members of the state NAACP protested cuts and the voter ID bill.
