Truck fire closes southbound lanes of I-95 near Rocky Mount

Friday, September 13, 2013

A tractor-trailer truck fire shut down some southbound lanes of Interstate 95 near Rocky Mount Friday.

The fire was first reported around 9 a.m. Friday.

Pictures from Chopper 11 showed the big rig on the shoulder of the highway. The cab of the vehicle was completely destroyed and there was additional damage to the trailer.

One lane of vehicles was inching by the incident and traffic was backed up for miles. The North Carolina DOT recommended drivers on I-95 Southbound take Exit 145, NC-4, and head South on NC-4. Turn right onto US-301 Southbound. Turn right onto US-64 Westbound and follow to rejoin I-95 Southbound from mile marker 138.
