Wayne County Sheriff's deputies have arrested a 32-year-old man for allegedly breaking into a home in the 1000 block of West New Hope Road in Goldsboro.

On Friday night, the Wayne County Sheriff's Office received an emergency call from a woman reporting a burglary that was in-progress at her home.

When deputies arrived at the residence, the 75-year-old homeowner informed them that she had successfully defended her home and that the intruder fled the residence before law enforcement arrived at the scene.

Police later arrested Joseph Nick Newsome of Goldsboro and charged him with first-degree burglary, breaking and entering, larceny, and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

Newsome is currently being held at the Wayne County Detention Center under a $164,000 secured bond.
