Illinois House approves smart-grid for Comed

Thursday, March 21, 2013

The Illinois House overwhelmingly approves legislation that could soon raise your Comed bill.

The bill backed by Comed would help fund the utility company's 10-year plan to complete its so-called smart-grid modernization.

The governor opposes the bill, but Thursday's passage gives Comed veto-proof majorities in both chambers.

Comed says right now the average residential customer has a bill of $82 a month.

The increase would add another 40 cents a month in 2014.

Those bills would then jump another 80 cents a month three years later in 2017.
