RALEIGH (WTVD) -- Democratic Lt. Gov. Walter Dalton challenged Republican Pat McCrory on Monday to commit to eight debates over the next four months on community college campuses in their North Carolina gubernatorial campaign.
Dalton said Monday the "town hall"-style debates would give voters the chance to listen to a straightforward discussion on North Carolina's future in addition to traditional televised debates in the fall.
"Community colleges are the intersection between innovative education and the 21st Century economy, so where better to debate our competing visions?" he asked.
At a campaign event in Greensborough, McCrory did not immediately commit to the exact schedule proposed by Dalton, but he told ABC11 "we welcome as many debates as possible."
"Four years ago, the Governor and Lt. Governor were running from debates. I'm pleased to see they finally want to talk about the issues," he offered.
