RALEIGH -- A judge Wednesday declined to drop charges against former Gov. Beverly Perdue associates Juleigh Sitton and Trawick "Buzzy" Stubbs Jr.
Juleigh Sitton was a paid fundraiser for Perdue's 2008 campaign. She's accused of accepting $32,000 in unreported salary payments from illegal campaign donations.
Trawick "Buzzy" Stubbs Jr. is accused of flying Perdue around for free when she was running for office in 2008. The value of those flights added up to more than $28,000 that the campaign didn't initially report as contributions.
Attorney David Rudolf told a Wake County judge Friday that it was the responsibility of the Perdue campaign to report the donations. The prosecutor said Stubbs knew what he was doing was illegal.
Attorneys for the pair also argued the charges should not have been brought in Wake County because they don't live there.
The prosecution called that illogical.
Trawick's trial was set for June 11. A trial date for Sitton has not yet been set.
