Governor-elect Pat McCrory gets ready to take over

Wednesday, November 07, 2012

Governor-elect Pat McCrory took questions from reporters on the morning after his strong victory Wednesday.

He did not get into specifics about his plans for transitioning into power - saying it was too early. McCrory will take the oath of office in January.

The former Charlotte mayor got 55 percent of the vote compared to Democrat Walter Dalton's 43 percent Tuesday. McCrory will be the first Republican governor in North Carolina in 20 years.

He told reporters Wednesday that his wife has begun packing for the move to Raleigh.

As for what his first acts will be when he takes office, McCrory said he's just beginning to figure out what battles he wants to fight and how to prioritize them.

He did say he feels like he has a mandate from the voters to fix the state's broken economy, and he intends to go about that in a bipartisan manner.

He plans to reach out to the private sector for solutions and seek the advice of other governors.
