Carolina Hurricanes President and General Manager Jim Rutherford announced Monday the team's agreement to sign goalie Manny Legace.

Legace's one-year contract is worth just over $600,000.

The 36-year-old has played with Los Angeles, Detroit and St. Louis teams. He is a Toronto native with a 2.54 goals-against average.

He's played in 11 career Stanley Cup playoff games and served as the backup goaltender during Detroit's run to the 2002 Stanley Cup championship.

In 2008, Legace injured his hip when he slipped on the carpet placed on the ice for republican vice presidential candidtate Sarah Palin. The Alaskan governor dropped the ceremonial first puck before the St. Louis Blues hosted the Los Angeles Kings.
