CARY (WTVD) -- The Kellogg Company announced Wednesday it has taken precautionary measures by putting a hold on Austin and Keebler brand items.
The items include toasted peanut butter sandwich crackers, peanut butter and jelly sandwich crackers, cheese and peanut butter sandwich crackers, and peanut butter-chocolate sandwich crackers.
The sandwich crackers on hold are solely produced at a plant in Cary, North Carolina.
The Food and Drug Administration and other regulatory agencies have indicated that Peanut Corporation of America is the focus of their investigation concerning a recent salmonella outbreak. The cause has been thought to be from tainted peanut butter.
Kellogg emphasizes this is simply a precautionary measure while the outbreak is investigated. They say it is not a recall.
PCA is one of several peanut butter suppliers that Kellogg uses in its Austin and Keebler brand peanut butter sandwich crackers.
The Kellogg Company says their inside investigation has not indicated any concerns. The company also says they have not received any consumer illness complaints about the products.
The FDA will not confirm nor deny that it is inspecting the Cary plant. They will only say that it's devoting its resources to get a handles on the Salmonella outbreak.
However, Kellogg is still taking precautionary measures by putting a hold on any inventory, removing products from store shelves and encouraging customers and consumers to not eat the snacks until officials complete their investigation.
Kellogg Company brands include Kellogg's, Keebler, Pop-Tarts, Eggo, Cheez-It, Club, Nutri-Grain, Rice Krispies, Special K, All-Bran, Mini-Wheats, Morningstar Farms, Famous Amos, Ready Crust and Kashi.
Consumers with questions and/or would like a product refund can call the Kellogg Consumer Response Center at 888-314-2060.
