Sheriff: Child shoots self, dies

The Onslow County Sheriff's Office is investigating a shooting that killed a toddler.

Sheriff Ed Brown said a 3-year-old boy, who found a gun at his home, shot himself in the forehead and died Monday morning.

It happened just after 10 a.m.

Onslow County Sheriff Ed Brown says boy's father is a civilian police officer at Camp Lejeune. The gun used was the father's personal weapon and not a military issue firearm.

The family was in the process of moving out of the house.

Authorities have not released the name of the victim. There is no word on in charges will be filed.
