ASU student killed at off-campus party

  

BOONE, NC (WTVD) -- A weekend party turned deadly when a student at Appalachian State University was accidentally shot and killed.

Boone police say 19-year-old Jay Derby of Matthews, NC died Sunday morning. He was one of seven people at a party at an off-campus party when officers say a muzzle-loader gun accidentally went off.

Monday evening, Boone police arrested 20-year-old Galen Elijah Ruble in connection with Derby's death.

Ruble is currently charged with involuntary manslaughter.
