I've been part of the 13abc family for more than two years now. Sometimes I look back and it's hard to believe I landed such an amazing career. Not only did I join Ohio's most award-winning news station and a very talented group of journalists, but I finally returned to my home state of Ohio! I was born and raised in the Cleveland area.
You can catch me anchoring 13abc Action News Saturday and Sunday mornings alongside Dave Holmes and reporting for 13abc's weekday newscasts. I know what you're thinking... it takes a whole lot of energy (or coffee) to wake up so early on the weekends! You're right, but I'm glad to be there to give you the information you need as you start your day. And I guarantee, we'll have a laugh, too!
I'm always telling a story. Some of the more memorable stories landed Northwest Ohio in the national spotlight. In August 2007, I reported for three days from Findlay on the massive flooding. And in July 2008, I was live on the scene of the inferno at the Hunter's Ridge Apartments. I reported for CNN on both of these incredible stories.
That reminds me of the other awesome aspect of this job... I never know where I'm headed when I wake up in the morning, or who I'll meet along the way. That's the beauty of news. it just happens and you pick up and go. I've also got a front seat and backstage pass to some very exciting stories!
I graduated from Kent State University and interned at WSYX- ABC 6/WTTE Fox 28 in Columbus. My first paid broadcasting job came while in college, anchoring the civics-angled PBS program, "News Ohio", which aired in schools and on television throughout Northeast Ohio, including my hometown of Cleveland. I also spent two years at WTHI-TV in Terre Haute, Indiana as a reporter and weekend anchor.
I feel privileged that when you're looking for news and weather with a side of fun, you choose 13abc. After all, you are inviting us into your homes! I'm glad to be a part of your day.
The blessings don't stop there. My husband and I are loving life with our new daughter, Reece. She is a diva!
We hope to continue growing our family here in Northwest Ohio.
I hope to see you around, and if you have any story ideas, comments or questions, just shoot me an email at Melissa.Andrews@abc.com
