Sashem Brey

Sashem Brey
A.M. or P.M? That's the question Sashem Brey asks herself about 9 times a day! Sashem joined the award-winning 13ABC News Team in September 2004, and now has the pleasure of keeping you in-the-know throughout the mornings and evenings!

If you're an early riser - you can join Sashem alongside Jeff Smith and Meteorologist Jay Berschback every weekday morning between 5 and 7 a.m. for 13ABC Action News Good Morning. The team works hard overnight to bring you all the breaking news, weather, traffic and laughter to get you going in a good mood!

Fast forward ten hours: Sashem takes to the desk again, co-anchoring Action News at 5:30p.m. with Susan Ross Wells. It's a unique schedule that takes a little coordination (and lots of strategic napping), but Brey is pleased to tackle the job.

Sashem is a born and bred Ohioan. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from The Ohio State University (go Bucks!), where she majored in Broadcast Journalism with minors in Spanish and Marketing. Between classes, Brey worked behind the scenes at WSYX-ABC 6/FOX 28 News and WSNY-FM - both in Columbus.

After graduation, her love for music, movies and television carried her into the glittering world of Entertainment Journalism, with a stint at 'E! News Daily' in Los Angeles. Sashem's work on the Hollywood red carpets led to a position as Anchor and Reporter with KLBK and KAMC in Lubbock, Texas. There, she won several Associated Press awards covering stories ranging from the Shuttle Columbia Explosion to the always-unpredictable outbursts of then-Texas Tech Basketball Coach Bob Knight.

Since her arrival back in her home state - Sashem has experienced some of Northwest Ohio's biggest news stories up close. She was the only TV reporter on the scene when the 2005 Neo-Nazi Riot exploded on the streets of Toledo, even providing live reports to CNN. Brey donned a life jacket to be among the first to experience the devastating summer floods of 2007, almost getting trapped on a water-logged highway herself! There are also heart-warming stories that brought many smiles: the overnight "slumber party" with a Toledo family of quadruplets and twins (all under the age of three!) and her award-winning story on the Toledo matriarch who passed away on Election Day, but passed on a legacy of patriotism and independence.

Toledo has become a wonderful home for Sashem, and viewers like you make every trip to the grocery store or gas station a chance to meet longtime viewers (and fellow early-birds) face to face.

Now, Brey wants to make sure you feel welcome every time you tune in to 13ABC. If you would like to submit a story idea to Sashem, or just say "hi", she'd love to hear from you! Send her an e-mail at Sashem.Brey@abc.com.
