It wasn't that I was in love with the city, but it was the PEOPLE here. Toledo is filled with some of the most compassionate people I have ever come across.
I am so proud to say TOLEDO is my hometown.
In 1996, I graduated from Saint Ursula Academy. I then pursued broadcast journalism at the prestigious E.W. Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio.
I landed my first TV job at KTVE in Monroe, Louisiana. Later, I returned to Toledo and briefly worked as a reporter for WTOL before joining 13 ABC.
Since 2001, I've anchored the weekend evening shows.
This job has been a roller coaster ride. I've covered devastating tornadoes, fires, and storms, local politics and presidential elections. I've gone behind the scenes of ABC's hit show "One Life to Live," "Good Morning America," "World News Tonight" and :The Rachael Ray Show."
People are my passion, and my mission is to help you, through my job-- whether it's getting the answers you need, or helping you save money to make ends meet.
In 2009, 13 ABC created a segment called "Super Saving Sunday."
Every week we break down the best deals at local stores to help families stretch their dollar. It is our commitment to see your family through this tough economy.
The community has given me some kudos along the way and I am so very honored.
In 2007, I received Toledo's 20 under 40 Award, and in 2009, I received the Northwest Ohio's Black Media Association Media Achievement Award.
I also received an Associated Press Award and a Telly Award for my story entitled "Hip Hop Math."
I currently serve on the board of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwest Ohio and I'm also a member of the National Association of Black Journalists and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc.
In my spare time I love spending time with my husband Tirrell, and my son, Isaiah, and my twins, Laila and Lauren.
We like to spend our time at The Church on Strayer.
I also love speaking to young women about goals, self esteem, and making positive choices.
I am always looking for story ideas. You can send me an email at Kristian.Brown@abc.com
