The hours are unpredictable, an entire day's work can change in an instant, and you never know what big story is going to break next, but that's why being a broadcast journalist is exciting. Ever since I was 6 years old, I knew I wanted to be a journalist of some sort. At first I wanted to be a weatherman, then I wanted to be a sports broadcaster. But my interest in history and politics led me to a career as a newsman.

I've been fortunate in that I've done just about every job a journalist can do. I've shot and edited my own stories, produced my own newscasts, anchored news and sports, was a weatherman for 9 years and I've hosted a political talk show on a national TV network. I've broadcast live, underwater, from a German U-boat, produced and reported several documentaries, interviewed nearly every U.S. Senator and every Congressman and traveled to cover stories like hurricanes, Tim McVeigh's execution and political conventions.

I've won 21 national, regional and local journalism awards but nothing compares to spending time with my wife Peverley and our 5 cats: Wink (a one-eyed stray), Maggie, Grace, Deuce and Muddy (an abandoned cat I found wondering around the old Sports Arena).

And my personal involvement with Planned Pethood is among the most rewarding work I do. We are a no-kill, non-profit rescue group, saving stray and abandoned cats and dogs, getting them spayed and neutered and then adopting them out. Please consider Planned Pethood, or any of the other rescue groups before abandoning an animal, or before adopting a cat or dog. And donations to spay/neuter hospitals, rescue groups and humane shelters are always encouraged and welcomed.
