Susan Ross Wells
Welcome to 13abc.com! If you're visiting our website, you're probably a loyal viewer of 13 abc Action News, which means you know that I co-anchor weekdays on 13 Action News at Noon and 13 Action news at 5:30.

I also cover the HealthBeat, reporting on medical breakthroughs and happenings in the local medical community. Those reports air on 13 abc Action News at Five.

A little background on my career in news: prior to coming to WTVG, I worked in the late 1980's at WMUR-TV in Manchester, New Hampshire, working my way up from assignment editor to reporter to anchor. Then I landed a job here in Toledo in 1992 as the morning and noon anchor. Several years ago I made the switch from the early morning shift to the day shift.

Highlights of my time here at 13 abc include covering John Glenn's return to space in 1998 with a week-long series of reports from Kennedy Space Center in Florida. I also got to travel to Washington to interview the Senator prior to launch. I have to admit I've become a bit of a space junkie since doing those reports. I recently had the opportunity to do a feature report on Gene Kranz, former NASA mission control director, and native Toledoan, when he returned to town for a speaking engagement at his alma mater, Central Catholic High School. It was truly an honor to meet both of these space pioneers.

Covering the Oscars a few years ago wasn't so bad either. It was kind of surreal to be on the famous red carpet and see stars walking right by.

I also traveled to Oklahoma City a few years ago as the Timothy McVeigh execution drew near. I featured a Northwest Ohio man who was truly a hero the day the Murrah Federal Building was blown up. He worked in the local army office there, and saved many lives that day. The memorial and museum there are beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time& hard to see, but I'm glad I had the chance to experience them.

I grew up outside Boston, the second oldest of four children, and went to college in upstate New York. I majored in English at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs.

As for what I do in my free time: I've grown to enjoy gardening. I'm not all that great at it, but it's fun to plant something and see if it actually survives! My husband and I also spend a lot of time spoiling our three cats.

I've spent a lot of time through the years supporting community organizations and charities in Toledo. In recent years I've been a tutor at Hawkins Elementary School and a board member for the Bethany House, a local shelter for battered women and their children. I've also gotten involved with several organizations including the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and American Diabetes Association.

I hope you've gotten to know me a little better. Keep watching!
