Family and friends are mourning the loss of a Lenawee County father and son who died in an early morning fire on Wednesday. It happened just before 4:00 a.m. in Morenci, Michigan on the 400 block of Pearl Street.

Neighbors placed stuffed animals outside the Rohr family home on Pearl Street. They are remembering 12-year-old Zachari and his 36-year-old dad Jeremy.

Neighbor Kenneth Ray Black says he woke up just after 3:00 a.m. to see his neighbor's home engulfed in flames. "I look out my bedroom window and I seen people running and screaming everywhere."

He and his brother jumped into action. His brother went inside the burning home and rescued a baby. The mother Tina, the baby and their nine-year-old son survived.

There's a discrepancy about how long it took the volunteer fire department to respond to the call. Neighbors say it took 35 minutes for crews to arrive. The fire chief says it took seven.

13abc spoke with Morenci fire chief Chad Schisler at his home. He says the time of dispatch was 3:43 a.m. The time of arrival was 3:50. The fire chief says the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

This is the second double fatal fire Morenci has seen in little more than a year. Last May, 18-year-old Jonathon Pike and 15-year-old Chelsey Sedlacek were also killed in a house fire.
