H1N1 clinics for students, first H1N1 death in Wood County, Toledo 2010 budget...
Toledo Public Schools and the Health Department are holding their first of four H1N1 clinics for students. It's today from 8 am to 4 pm at Start high school. It's only for students accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. The students have to be from a select group of schools.
Wood County health officials tell 13abc the H1N1 virus has killed a Bowling Green man. Kevin Babcock, 53, is Wood County's first H1N1 death. His family says he had a heart attack back in 2006 and never really recovered. He had pneumonia and bronchitis, and then came down with H1N1 last week.
It appears the mayor left out a very important number when writing up next year's budget. Looking at the budget Mayor Finkbeiner proposed Monday, it lists trash fee revenues at zero dollars for 2010. In 2009, the revenue was $4.7 million. Councilman George Sarantou believes a misleading report like that means Toledo's deficit isn't close to projected $30 million.
Senators will make a procedural vote on the nearly $1-trillion health care bill today on Capitol Hill. Sixty votes are needed to move forward. Senator Sherrod Brown is in favor of the bill while Senator George Voinovich says he will vote against the test vote motion.
Republicans are trying to chip away support among women for the new health care bill. They're pointing to this week's recommendations for fewer Pap smears and mammograms, suggesting they will lead to health care rationing.
He has been at the center of criticism and now, for the first time, Lucas County's dog warden speaks out about his decision to retire. In his first interview since the announcement, Warden Tom Skeldon is defending his office. The interview airs on "Conklin and Company" Sunday, Nov. 22 at 11am on 13abc.
A man is in the hospital after an overnight accident. It happened at Dorr and Secor. Police say one driver was making a turn onto Dorr when he collided with a car driving through the intersection. The injuries appear to be minor.
Council president Joe McNamara was re-elected. Now there's word he's looking to run for another office. State Senator Teresa Fedor is term-limited out. So McNamara is forming a committee as he considers making a run for her seat. The Democrat says the Toledo- Oregon area needs a strong advocate in Columbus.
A 14-hour standoff between police and protesters at the University of California Berkeley is over. Demonstrators barricaded themselves inside a campus building to rally against a 32 percent increase in student fees and budget cuts. So far, 41 people have been arrested at Berkeley. A protest continues at UC Santa Cruz.
A gas explosion tore through a state-run coal mine in northern China overnight killing at least 37 people. Five-hundred-thirty people were working in the mine at the time of the explosion. Officials say so far they know of only 390 that escaped. Crews say the explosion was caused by a buildup of gas. Rescue efforts continue this morning.
The suspect in the massacre at Fort Hood will have his first court hearing today and it will be in Nidal Hasan's hospital bed. The hearing will determine whether Hasan will be placed in pre-trial confinement, which usually means jail. But Hasan's lawyers will argue he needs to stay in the hospital because he's paralyzed. Hasan has been in intensive care since the November 5 rampage that left 13 dead.
Get ready to pay more if you're shipping a package. UPS is hiking rates for ground packages by an average of 4.9 percent. The rate hike takes effect on January 4, so all of your holiday packages will still cost the current rate to ship out.
A judge increased bond for an Illinois man accused of secretly making nude videos of ESPN reporter Erin Andrews, but Michael Barrett posted that $100,000 bond. We have now learned some of the video Barrett captured was shot at a Columbus hotel. Andrews was in town to cover an Ohio State - Michigan basketball game. If convicted, Barrett could face up to 5 years in prison.
