Recreating Southwyck Mall

Saturday, November 05, 2005

A local developer and the owner of Southwyck Mall are close to an agreement on recreating that mall. Southwyck has been in decline for nearly a decade but it appears the owner of the mall, Toledo leaders, and a developer may finally be on the same page when it comes to making some changes.

Two days ago the man who developed Levis Commons in Perrysburg showed his concept of what Southwyck could become to the mall's owners. Today Mayor Jack Ford announced there's a handshake deal to get something done. The site plan makes for a completely different Southwyck Mall. It's a new Southwyck Mall that city leaders say is cutting edge when it comes to re-developing an older mall.

The new Southwyck would include two anchor stores, 4 box retailers, Tens of thousands of square feet of store and restaurant space, office space is included, along with 256 luxury sized apartments.

Mayor Ford says the city is willing to spend $2,500,000 fixing a road which runs around Southwyck. He says the city could offer some tax breaks to get the project going. Carty Finkbeiner has seen the Dillin plan and he likes it a lot.
