A local correction officer is behind bars

Monday, September 17, 2007

A local correction officer is behind bars tonight charged with bribery. The Lucas County corrections officer was arrested last night while on the job.

13abc has learned that 43-year-old Edward Drane of Toledo was arrested Saturday on the 1700 block of Canton Avenue, which is just a block away from the jail. He is accused of bribery.

Sources inside the Lucas County jail tell 13abc that Drane was allegedly sneaking drugs into the jail. They also say the sheriff's office used an inmate to set the jail employee up so officers could take him down. It's an investigation by the Lucas County sheriff's office and they were assisted by Toledo police officers. Drane is expected to face a judge Monday.

We talked with a jail administrator Sunday night who said this happened in the past and they're not going to tolerate it. The administrator also says that they're doing all they can to stop crimes committed inside the jail.
