The city of Toledo will require mandatory video surveillance next month at convenience stores.

The city of Toledo will require mandatory video surveillance next month at convenience stores. A group of store owners is fighting the new ordinance.

The Midwest Retailers Association filed a lawsuit. They say making it mandatory for carry-outs to have video cameras is too costly. Not only that, if they don't have cameras running 24-7 with a log of at least 30 days, store owners say they could be fined $100 a day or have their licenses revoked.

The attorney for the retailers calls this similar to the controversial wire-tapping practices because a carry-out owner would be required to turn over video. Nabil, of Nabil's Quick Stop, says it's like asking store owners to do police work

The ordinance is set to take effect next month.
