PETA ad controversy

The question of dog breeding is under fire tonight from an animal rights group, but some say the group's message goes too far.

The group in question is PETA, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. Its members are no strangers to controversy. But is this latest commercial over the line? It's an advertisement intended to make you feel uncomfortable.

The animal right's activist group PETA produced this ad. It tries to make a connection between the k-k-k and the American Kennel Club.

PETA says Sandusky's cable system wouldn't put it on TV because it was untimely after a recent prank involving a Sandusky post highway patrolman who photographed another trooper in a make-shift Ku Klux Klan costume. We showed the ad to some people who felt that was the right decision.

But PETA representative Melissa Karpel says the ad is simply misunderstood.

"Many people saw nothing wrong with the KKK 40 years ago. Today many people see nothing wrong with breeding dogs and cats for the so-called master race."

{3633} Kelly White opposes the commercial. She says, "I think there's other ways that you can get the message across. I don't think you need to bring the KK in. That's awful."

Karpel says PETA will continue trying to get the ad to run in cities across the country, including in northern Ohio.
