Planned Parenthood is facing tough times

WTVG -- The national office has been called in to help restructure the pair of Toledo offices, one on Glendale and the other on Jefferson.

Some big changes are on the way for a local medical care provider. Planned Parenthood of Northwest Ohio, a not for profit organization, is facing tough times.

Planned Parenthood provides health services to men and women in northwest Ohio. The former CEO turned in her resignation in January, and the national office has stepped in to assist the struggling operation. A 33 year old woman, who asked not to be identified, says she's used the facility since she was a teen. "I'm always in and out and I don't see they need any improvements for the services I use here."

But the national office does. They have been called in to help restructure the pair of Toledo offices, one on Glendale and the other on Jefferson. Acting CEO, Lisa Perks says that restructuring could include a merger or the sharing of staff. Perks says the 2 Planned Parenthood facilities have sustained a significant operating loss over the years. That's important since Planned Parenthood is a not for profit corporation.

One patient hopes the local affiliates can rebound from the rising health care cost that's forced the national office to take action. "They do classes on teen pregnancy and things like that. I think it really benefits the community."

The acting CEO says the medical centers in our area aren't closing. She says they are considering moving its Glendale location to another site.
