Fatal car accident in Defiance, Early morning Toledo house fire, Week long cease-fire in Israel

The Defiance Highway Patrol post is investigating a fatal crash. It happened yesterday near the intersection of State Routes 424 and 281 in Defiance County. Police say a car driven by 48-year-old Theresa Rosebrock of Defiance was traveling on County Road 424 when 78-year-old Richard Demuth, also of Defiance, walked into the roadway and was struck by Rosebrock. Demuth was taken to Toledo Hospital where he died from the injuries.

A house fire broke out just after 1 this morning in Toledo. It happened on the 600-block of Hamilton Street. Firefighters say the blaze started in the rear of the house. It appears someone did live in the house. Crews are calling this fire suspicious.

Palestinian groups in Gaza say they will give Israel a one-week cease-fire starting today. Militants have been firing rockets into southern Israel today, even after Israel enacted its cease-fire in Gaza.

In Monroe, one man is behind bars after police say he carjacked a man at the Meijer on Telegraph Road. Monroe County Deputies say, 38-year-old James Bryant stole a Rock Band II video game system then ran to the Meijer gas station, forced a man from his vehicle, and drove off. Deputies later found the vehicle at an apartment complex. Bryant was arrested. He now faces charges of retail fraud and carjacking.

A happy ending to a story we first brought you on 13abc action news earlier in the week. Beth Meyers of Toledo found a chocolate Lab limping down the sidewalk almost frozen in the frigid temperatures. Since the dog didn't have any tags she called 13abc for help. We are pleased to report the owner saw our story and contacted Beth. Now Max, as his owner called him, is back home.

The Toledo Zoo is helping you stretch your dollar today. The zoo is doing so by opening its doors for free. Through Monday, Lucas County residents don't have to pay to see the animals and exhibits. Just bring a proof of residency and you can catch Frozentoesen free of charge.

A Columbus firefighter is recovering this morning from burns to his face after fighting a raging fire. The fire in downtown Columbus yesterday consumed a block of stores and apartments. Firefighters say the blaze burned about a dozen buildings in the city's Grandview area for several hours. At least a hundred firefighters rotated in and out of the frigid weather to fight the blaze. No word yet on the cause.

Federal health authorities say you should avoid eating cookies, cakes, ice cream and other foods with peanut butter. Dozens of products made with peanuts may be contaminated with salmonella. Officials say most peanut butter sold in jars at supermarkets appears to be safe.
