The 2009 honorees for the YWCA Milestones: A Tribute to Women annual award have been announced. This year's honorees are:
- Ann Anderson Stranahan - Arts,
- Paula H. Fall - Business,
- Isabel Escober, Ph.D. - Education,
- Marge Brown - Government,
- Judy Seibenick, RN, BSN, CHPCA - Sciences,
- Betty Amison - Social Services, and
- Ann Sanford - Volunteerism.
An independent panel of community leaders was used to select these seven women.
The purpose of the YWCA Milestones Award is to honor women of Northwest Ohio who have demonstrated outstanding leadership qualities and who, through their efforts and accomplishments, have opened doors for other women to achieve their potential.
The YWCA programs serve more than 23,000 individuals annually in Northwest Ohio.
Battered Women's Shelter-- Provides a 24 hour, 7-days-a-week crisis shelter for victims of domestic violence and their children.
H.O.P.E. Center-- Also provides 24 hour, 7-days-a-week crisis intervention for survivors of sexual assault and their families: Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (S.A.N.E.) training and education; and community education and group counseling.
ENCOREplus-- A comprehensive breast cancer early detection program that offers medically under-served women aged 40 and older life-saving information and no-cost mammography screening.
HEARTplus-- An intensive healthy life-style change program for medically underserved women and children featuring a series of lifestyle education and fitness classes.
YWCA Child Care Resource & Referral-- Provides child care resource and referral services for families searching for quality child care and training for child care providers.
Youth Development-- A comprehensive teenage pregnancy prevention program for students in middle school and high school in the Toledo Public School system.
