Memorial Day events!

Area communities held ceremonies paying tribute to everyone in the armed services.

Memorial Day is a time to honor all those who have lost their lives fighting in the line of duty. Today, all across our area communities held ceremonies paying tribute to everyone in the armed services.

Hundreds of people joined in a ceremony at Toledo Memorial Park honoring all of America's war veterans. There was eremonial gunfire and the release of doves, which all symbolize patriotism and the call for peace throughout the world. Residents young and old filled the parade route, many learning about what Memorial Day means.

The annual Memorial Day parade made its way through downtown Sylvania, featuring area high school bands, government officials, and many veterans who have lived through the battles. More than 12,000 veterans have been laid to rest at Toledo Memorial Park. Ceremonies were also held in Maumee, Perrysburg, and other military cemeteries across northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan.

The annual Memorial Day parade in Perrysburg stopped at Hood Park today so one member could place a wreath at the monument of those killed in service of our country. The parade ended at Fort Meigs Union cemetery. The speaker for the event was Perrysburg resident, Clinton Mauk, a local historian and World War II navy veteran.
