Findlay homicide, H1N1 vaccinations, fire investigation, soldier home from Iraq

The Wood County Health Department is holding a vaccination clinic for the public. It's happening at the Huntington Bank building at Bowling Green State University on Research Dr. off Dunbridge Rd. The clinic is for high-risk people from six months of age and up, those with chronic illnesses, pregnant women, healthcare workers, and others in target groups. Both the nasal mist and the injectable form of the H1N1 vaccine will be available. However, there is a limited supply of the injectable form. The clinic is from 1 to 6 p.m.

Police are investigating a homicide that happened early yesterday morning. Findlay police responded to a burglary call at an apartment on Jennifer Lane. David Synder, 26, was found shot. He later died at Blanchard Valley Hospital. Police have determined that 30-year-old Cornelius Patterson was the triggerman in the shooting. An arrest warrant was issued for Patterson. After receiving a tip, Patterson was located in Toledo. He's now locked up in the Lucas County jail.

Fire crews were on the scene of a house fire after 2 a.m. this morning on the 5800 block of Demison Road in Sylvania Township. Firefighters say five people lived in the house but only four were home at the time. They say smoke detectors woke everyone up. The fire was contained to the kitchen and living room. No injuries were reported. The cause is under investigation.

A fire destroyed a Toledo man's home Friday morning. It happened after midnight on the 5700 block of Firethorne Drive. Donald Hazlet said he's set up a fund at area Fifth Third banks. He said he and his family lost everything in that fire Friday morning.

Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown will join area officials today in Findlay to tour flood damage in that area. He'll also get an update on recovery and mitigation efforts. That's happening this morning at the Main Street bridge in Findlay.

Construction of Sylvania Township Fire Station Three begins this month. The new fire station will be located at the corner of Haddon and Whiteford Roads in Sylvania Township. The township will hold a groundbreaking ceremony at 1 p.m. at the site of that new station. The construction of Fire Station 3 is happening at the end of the Fire Station Four's re-construction on Sylvania Avenue. A special ribbon cutting ceremony is scheduled for 2 p.m. today. An open house for the public will follow.

A Toledo soldier serving overseas is home this morning. Sergeant James Keen got an emotional welcome home after serving in Iraq. He flew into Detroit late yesterday afternoon where his family gave him a big greeting. Sergeant Keen spent a year in Iraq.

A race to the finish line turned deadly in Detroit. Yesterday three men died from what is believed to be cardiac arrest during a marathon. Race officials say two of the men collapsed at the finish line. The other collapsed around the 12-mile mark. All three were taken to area hospitals where they were each pronounced dead. One of the victims was 65-year-old Rick Brown from Marietta.
