City also plans to fund police class next year

Fourteen officers will be back on the street Friday ending a nearly 6 month stretch of being laid off.

Mayor Finkbeiner says retirements and officers on military leave made it all possible. The amount of money saved by the 36 police retirements this year was enough to bring back all 14.

The mayor says he made the decision yesterday and announcement today after months of disagreements with the union about bringing back these officers. They will be back tomorrow.

It allows the police department to take two officers on the street and put them in detective bureau. The mayor also says the 14 will help patrol the area around Rogers high school, where he says neighbors are starting to notice problems with kids gathering. Ultimately, everyone seemed happy today.

The City also announced next year's budget will have money for a police class of roughly 30. The City's next mayor will decide when that class will start.
