The organization hopes to pass on their philosophy of caring for everyone regardless of social status.

Every year thousands of people become homeless in Toledo. One local organization strives to put an end to it, one person at a time.

Gary Bond used to be homeless, but now he has a home and a steady income and he volunteers for the organization "1 Matters." Gary joined hundreds of other volunteers over the weekend in downtown Toledo for the organization's annual Tent City event, intended to help the homeless get back on their feet.

Around 700 people got in line for clothing, medical care, drug rehabilitation, and job training. "Nobody was turned down, nobody was denied services, and everybody walked away fulfilled," said Ken Leslie, founder of 1 Matters.

The organization hopes to pass on their philosophy of caring for everyone regardless of social status.

This year, organizers say they saw more families and twice as many people as last year. 1 Matters offers their services year round, not just during the tent city event.
