Will the residents vote to pay for county-provided services?

The citizens group "A Better Way for Springfield" wants township residents to vote "no" on Issue 8 tomorrow.

In June, Lucas County commissioners decided to no longer fund sheriff's patrols in the eight townships that don't have a local police force.

Now, Springfield Township trustees want voters to pass a levy to fund police services. But two of the three trustees don't want to contract with the county.

That has some in the sheriff's office fired up. Springfield Twp. Trustee Andy Glenn says, "Toing with the county will cost every property owner in Springfield Township far more than contracting with the village of Holland."

Matt Luettke is president of UAW local 3056. He says the burden being placed on the taxpayers is "wrong for Springfield at this point in time."

Voters in Washington and Jerusalem townships will face similar levies tomorrow.
