Men talk their way into home and steal things from residents

Bowling Green police are investigating the complaint of two white males talking their way or walking into the homes of citizens uninvited on at least 4 occasions early yesterday afternoon. While one tries to sell linoleum and distract the resident, another goes to other parts of the home and, in one instance, stole a purse and broke into a safe.

They are described as one male in his 20's and one middle-aged man, driving a smaller white pick-up truck with some type of black container in the back. Police ask that if a door-to-door salesman is at your door, do not allow them entry to your home and call police immediately.

One complainant described one of the male subjects as follows: white male, 5'-6", late 40s-early 50s, with dark and gray hair in a ponytail, wearing a dark green "camo" type jacket, blue jeans, and carrying a clipboard.

Police describe the incident this way: "The complainant stated the male subject told her he was there regarding some linoleum flooring. The complainant told the male subject she was not interested. The male subject then said he was with a local property management company and was there to look at the floor. The complainant told the subject she did not receive any communication from her management company and denied the subject entry into her apartment."

Another, unrelated solicitor complaint was made yesterday. Two subjects were arrested for obstructing and soliciting without a permit. Monica L. Sodd of Oak Hill, Ohio, was arrested for a felony warrant from Scioto County for attempted forgery and Winona J. Deleon also of Oak Hill, Ohio, was arrested for felony obstruction of justice and soliciting without a permit.

Door-to-door sales in Bowling Green require a permit. Residents are warned that solicitors may have questionable backgrounds and may offer substandard services or products. Report any solicitors to the police immediately.
