Officer injured in crash, Veterans Day, military holiday mail, Kimbler memorial funds...
If you want to send a little holiday cheer to the men and women of the military fighting overseas, here's something to keep in mind. The postal service recommends getting those packages in the mail by this Friday, November 13. This includes items being sent to Iraq and Afghanistan. Mail sent to overseas military addresses will only be charged domestic prices. That's $13.95 for a large, priority mail flat rate box.
With Veterans Day tomorrow, many businesses and public offices will be closed. Most city, state and federal offices will be closed. Post offices, banks and financial institutions will be closed as well. There will be no mail delivery or collection and no trash pick-up in Toledo tomorrow either. That means the trash schedule will "leap forward" which makes Thursday a red number one day, Friday a yellow number two and so on.
A young mother presumably dies from H1N1 last week. Now her children need help. Health officials suspect Mandy Kimbler died from the virus, days after giving birth to twin boys. Now Kimbler's family is asking for baby items, such as diapers and clothes for the twins. You can drop them off Saturday between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. at Towne Air Freight in Perrysburg off Eckel Junction Rd. You can also still donate money at any Key Bank.
It's been one year since the Frisch family was in the national spotlight on "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition." It's tonight at 7 p.m. at the Washington branch library. 13abc's Diane Larson will introduce Jackie, who says blessings continue to flood her life. In Chicago, a bus apparently lost control and rammed into a home. It hit with such force that three to five feet of the bus actually went into the brick building. Three passengers were riding the bus at the time, but fortunately, none were seriously hurt. No word on what caused the crash.
A close call was caught on surveillance tape in Boston. Police say the woman was drunk when she stumbled and fell on the subway tracks. The train was just 23 seconds away and at first, the operator didn't see the woman, but saw other people on the platform waving frantically. As if this wasn't dangerous enough, the woman also managed to avoid touching the "third rail" which had 600 volts of electricity pulsing through it. She's now at home taking it easy.
