If you are headed to the Big House for the big game, leave your bags at home. At the beginning of the season, University of Michigan tightened its stadium security.
A life-long Ohio State Buckeye fan, George Booth, doesn't frequent the Big House. But he's going Saturday and he knows the rules. He says, "I've been going to these games since 1945 and I've been in every stadium you could be in and have seen every rule this or that. So I pretty well know what you can or can't do."
It's strict at the stadium. Earlier this year, the university banned fans from bringing almost anything into the stands. Diane Brown, P.I.O. Dept. of Public Safety says, "Our prohibited items list does include no bags of any size, no purses, no fanny packs, no diaper bags, even those little wristlets and those sort of things are not permitted into our stadium."
Also on the list are umbrellas and seat backs, flags, strollers and containers of any kind. "This will allow our police officers to concentrate on their security measures and other people's behaviors in order to keep them safe," explains Brown.
Booth admits getting into the stadium takes a bit longer than it used to, but he's not complaining. "I think when you take into consideration the times we live in, I would rather feel secure. I would rather not have the chance of doing something crazy, doing something strange. So no, I don't think it's an inconvenience." Booth says he's not worried about his safety at the stadium, but he admits he is a little anxious about the game.
