Man arrested for stealing kettle outside The Andersons

UPDATE Nov. 30: The Maumee Police Division arrested 44-year-old Shawn Krieger of Toledo this morning for the robbery of a Salvation Army volunteer.

ORIGINAL STORY:
A real life Grinch struck northwest Ohio Saturday night. Maumee police are looking for a man that pushed a Salvation Army worker and stole the kettle full of money.

It was your normal holiday season Saturday at The Andersons with customers putting a dollar or two in the kettle. Around 6:00, a man showed up in a black pickup truck. He went in a few times and then, "A man came up behind her, pushed her, grabbed tripod and bucket that was full of money," says Cpt. Steven Lopes.

So as the man is leaving the store with the stolen kettle, he looks back and he says, "His words to her were he hates Christmas," says Lopes. The man got away in a stolen pickup truck. Toledo police found it later at Dorr and Reynolds and had it towed back to Maumee with no kettle inside.

The woman was pushed, but did not need medical treatment. We don't know exactly how much money was in the kettle, but Captain Lopes guesses between $600 and $800.

The stolen Salvation Army kettle was recovered. However, the lock was broken off and no money was inside.
