Kevin Powell Lecture: Hip Hop Declaration ~ (Toledo) 7:00 p.m., University of Toledo Student Union. The free, public program is sponsored by the Black Student Union, the Office of the Dean of Students, Campus Activities.During Kevin's presentation titled "Hip-Hop Declaration," Powell will discuss the effect of hip-hop on today's society. According to Brandon Tucker, UT president of the Black Student Union, Powell was chosen to speak at UT based on his contributions to society and his notable works. Sculpture In the Village ~ (Gibsonburg) All day. Williams Park; SR 300 just north of SR 600. Visit the Village of Gibsonburg and take a walk among 33 sculptures situated along a meandering lake-side path. The sculptures will be on exhibit for an entire year. 28 of the most prominent sculptors from Michigan, Ohio and Pennsylvania will have their works on display at Williams Park until May 31, 2007. The exhibit includes the work of both emerging and well established artists. Marian Anderson from South Haven, Michigan, is considered the Grand Dame of Michigan sculptors. Marian is 84 years old. Marie Brown is a senior at Bowling Green State University and from Napoleon, Ohio. Marie brings energy, creativity and technical mastery to her sculptures "Iron Pride" and "Hasnaa". Between the extremes of age and perspective are some of mid-American's finest sculptors. Take advantage of this unique opportunity to see their works on display in Northwest Ohio's largest outdoor sculpture show. Elizabeth Wayne Preschool Open House ~ (Maumee) 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m., Elizabeth Wayne Preschool in St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 310 Elizabeth Street (corner of Elizabeth and Dudley Streets) Elizabeth Wayne Preschool will be celebrating its 60th Anniversary. Elizabeth Wayne is the longest running preschool in the Toledo area. In honor of its existence, the doors will be open for a public open house. Elizabeth Wayne Preschool provides a caring Christian environment that encourages the worth of each child and the joy of learning and sharing together. We provide an enjoyable learning environment through music, art, dramatic play, science, both indoor and outdoor games. We also have brand new playground which is used when weather is permitted. Our program is open to any potty-trained child between the ages of 3-5 years old. Currently we have two 3 year old morning classrooms, two 4-5 year old morning Kindergarten Readiness classrooms, and one 4-5 year old afternoon Kindergarten Readiness classroom. The program is Monday through Thursday for all classrooms. The morning program runs from 9:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m., and our afternoon program runs from 12:15 p.m. - 2:45 p.m. Elizabeth Wayne's curriculum is based on fun sensory projects and activities that go along with weekly themes. We also have a weekly Bible story, letter, and number and more. We take several field trips in both Fall and Spring semesters. Field trips are intended as an extension of learning for the child and also a way for the parents to be involved in their child's learning process. A spirit of friendly cooperation is our goal. Parents and families are very important to our program. We have an open door policy. Parents are welcome to observe our classrooms at any time.Elizabeth Wayne has been and is a non-refundable $45 registration fee. Tuition is $94 for the school year, paid $105 a month, September through May. If two siblings are enrolled in the program at the same time, there is a 20% discount on a second tuition.

Jacob Lawrence Prints, 1963-2000: A Comprehensive Survey ~ (Toledo) 11:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Toledo Museum of Art, 2445 Monroe Street. Coming of age in 1930's Harlem, artist Jacob Lawrence (1917-2000) was inspired by the community's interest in the stories of its heritage to become a visual storyteller. The prints in this exhibition reflect his experiences and his interest in notable figures from African and African-American history, including two narrative series on Toussaint L'Ouverture (c. 1744-1803) and John Brown (c. 1800-1859). One simple sentence and most everyone know the author. Most of us grew up with Dr. Seuss books, and now Dr. Seuss comes to life on the stage with Seussical, The Musical. The story weaves together his most famous tales and characters in unexpected ways. Seussical incorporates elements from at least 15 of his books, as well as many of his best-loved and most familiar characters. North Coast Concert Band and Big Band ~ (Fremont) 3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m., Terra Community College Student Activity Center; 2830 Napoleon Road. Formed in January 1984, The North Coast Concert Band is made up of approximately 70 adult musicians from several north central Ohio communities. The Band rehearses weekly from mid-October until early June, performing concerts in December, March, and May. During June, July and August, the Band presents concerts in several area cities' concert-in-the-park programs. The Band's repertoire includes classic concert band pieces, contemporary symphonic band literature, medleys of popular and show tunes, and marches. Concerts often feature soloists or small ensembles. The North Coast Big Band is made up of 16 musicians from the North Coast Concert Band. The Big Band performs during the Concert Band's December, March, and May concerts and gives its own concerts during the summer months. The Big Band also plays at private functions. The Big Band repertoire concentrates on the dance music of the 1930's and 1940's, but includes music from the 1950's - 1970's. Arrangements often feature vocalists.
